Knowledge and Perception of Pre-eclampsia Management among Jordanian Health-care workers

Background: Pre-eclampsia is among the most common cause of neonatal and maternal morbidity in low and middle income countries. Objective: To assess knowledge, perception and management of pre-eclampsia among Jordanian health-care workers. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. Probability sampling procedure was used to select 132 health-care workers with diverse years of experience. Semi-structured self-administered questionnaire was used to collect data. Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyse data. Result: The level of knowledge about pre-eclampsia management among the Jordanian health-care workers was average; however, they exhibited a good perception of pre-eclampsia management. There is significant association between knowledge about pre-eclampsia management and years of experience. Conclusion: The study concluded that the level of knowledge and management of pre-eclampsia was low because of lack of written practice guidelines and refresher trainings on pre-eclampsia management. However, the training courses including current internationally and nationally approved pre-eclampsia management might be beneficial for Jordanian health-care workers. Summary Statement: 1. What is already known about this topic? Pre-eclampsia is a major maternal issue, which can increase maternity mortality. Through the development of their expertise and improving their management, health-care workers play a major role in avoiding its deadly adverse effects. 2. What this paper adds? This study shows Jordan's preeclampsia healthcare workers the average degree of experience and poor management. 3. What are the anticipated implications of knowledge and perception of pre-eclampsia management among Jordanian health-care workers? Hopefully, health-care workers will consider effective improvement measures to support Jordanian pregnant women's health, helping them prevent health issues that could jeopardize their lives by shedding light on their average level of knowledge, perception and pre-eclampsia management.
