Stability of alternative horizontal levitation electromagnetic continuous casting of aluminum sheet

摘要
The stability of lateral position disturbance of the Al sheet was studied by correlating the unbalanced lateral force on the Al sheet to the position disturbance through both finite element computation and the analysis of previous experimental results. The correlation showed that the continuous casting process is laterally unstable which means that any small lateral disturbance to the position of the sheet will result in an unbalanced force which will make it larger causing the collapse of the continuous cast sheet. This phenomenon also explained the appearance of casting rod ingot after the occurrence of instability.
