Technological and ecological aspects of lubricant application

Drilling process is very often associated with different technical-technological problems that influence the realization and economics of the project. Research has shown that drill pipe sticking presents 36 % of all problems encountered during drilling oil and gas wells. Freeing stuck pipe extends drilling time of the well and total costs. Appropriate drilling fluid design with addition of non-toxic and biodegradable lubricants can decrease possibility of differential sticking of the drill string. Types of stuck pipe, freeing stuck pipe methods and the laboratory testing results of different lubricants type and concentration influence on differential sticking tendency are presented in the paper.
