New Medical Tourism Business for the Hotel in Barranquilla Sector Model

Colombia for a few decades has been the destination preferred by people who have health conditions, in particular, those related to ophthalmology, cosmetic and curative medicine and welfare, this mobility which has been increasing due from 2012 the level of specialization of medical equipment, accessibility costs, certification of clinics and hospitals, among others. However, in parallel, the health tourist demand accommodation offering you the conditions and facilities for happy ending his recovery process, reason why, the present study aims to analyze medical tourism as a new business model for the hotel sector in Barranquilla. This took a sample of 15 hotels with category 4 and 5 star. Applied the standard instrument for the provision of tourism services in health and determine whether their spaces and services are adapted to the attention of this type of visitor. Results set, that the level of standard for seven factors evaluated in 15 hotels, is ranked in the order of 73.94%, that is medium standard, which seems to denote entry, that the hospitality industry has not valued the input generated by tourism doctor as a new business model. However, there are still aspects by assessing in the investigative process, which will yield more indicators of what the position of the hotel sector to this new business model for its strengthening in the city of Barranquilla.
