Diagnostic techniques for diastasis recti

Diastasis recti (DR) is an abnormality of the anterior abdominal wall, characterized by a separation of the rectus abdominis muscles along the linea alba. A thorough history and physical exam can diagnose most cases of diastasis recti. Classification schemes for diastasis recti have been created based on inter-rectus distance and location of the defect, which can help with management decisions. Imaging modalities such as ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can aid in the classification of diastasis recti and guide surgical planning.
