Nasal corticosteroids are indicated in various ORL conditions with very good results and reduction of systemic side effects. However, serious ophthalmological adverse effects have been reported, primarily chorioretinopathy. Glaucoma and posterior subcapsular cataract have been reported in very rare cases. The prevention of side effects induced by nasal corticosteroids consists in limiting indications and screening patients at risk. If nasal corticosteroid therapy is initiated, an annual full ophthalmic examination is recommended. The purpose of this review is to report the various ophthalmological side effects related to nasal corticosteroid use and to discuss their prevention and treatment.
