An antenna selection criterion in distributed antenna system

Recent researches have shown that with the same antenna density, Distributed Antenna System (DAS) outperforms Co-located Antenna System (CAS) in term of mean and outage capacity. In such a system, if additional antenna selection is adopted, the transmit power will not be allocated to poor transmit antennas. Thus, the mean capacity may be further improved. In this paper, we consider a correlated Generalized Distributed Antenna System (GDAS), where there exists spatial correlation between the fading of any two antennas in the same cluster. We derive a selection criterion, which maximizes the upper bound of the mean capacity. Simulation results show that adopting our selection criterion in DAS can bring significant improvement in mean capacity over CSA even without power control.
