Field-based stereoscopic video CODEC for multiple display methods

摘要
In this paper, we propose the stereoscopic broadcasting system model and the stereoscopic video CODEC that consists of the four layers to code even and odd field corresponding to the left and right video sequences, respectively. Proposed CODEC codes stereoscopic video sequences considering three display devices of the frame/field shuttering display and 2D(2-dimensional) display devices. Therefore, the field-based stereoscopic video CODEC makes it possible to transmit the coded bit-streams of the only necessary fields to the user's display device and decode those fields even though all of the four fields aren't transmitted. The simulation results shows that in field shuttering display, which is used for the general PC monitors recently, the data amount for transmission and decoding is reduced to half of that in MPEG-2 MVP with the almost same quality.
