Quality assurance procedures in a UK University

Quality assurance (QA) procedures are designed to ensure that new, and existing courses, fulfil University regulations, operate effectively and continue to operate within a positive, reflective approach engaging the views of key stakeholders so that the overall course operation is defensible to any external audit. Internal and external QA mechanisms at the University of Huddersfield are reviewed in this paper. An overview is given of the management of the QA procedures in operation, validation of programmes of study, review of the system of quality evaluation of all sections of the University, the role of examination boards and external examiners, course management and student input. Reference will also be made to the QA role of external bodies including Professional Associations and the UK Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). Reference will be made to general University procedures and to specific aspects affecting g the School of Design Technology.
