摘要
Dietary iodine intake is required for thyroid hormone production. The impact of pregnancy on iodine metabolism and homeostasis and the impact of maternal dietary iodine status and supplementation on maternal thyroid volume and function are reviewed. The effects of iodine status on fetal and neonatal neurodevelopment during pregnancy and lactation are discussed.
