It is argued in this paper that Galician literary anthologies of the nineteenth century functioned as effective cultural instruments in the processing of constructing and transmitting an incipient literary image of a proto-national culture. By their very composition and organizational principles, these repertories increasingly expressed and embodied the historical memory to which Galician 'Rexionalismo' laid claim, but also the many difficulties associated with this project.
