Web-based characteristics analysis for industrial engineering departments in universities

摘要
This paper describes an experimental study of characteristics analysis on industrial engineering departments in Japanese universities. All data are collected from universities web sites. For our experimentation, we identified their top pages and navigated heuristically from them for deriving the related information. We also selected the appropriate keywords from JIMA site. Then we analyzed the lecture subjects and their relationship under the impact of department restructuring. Further, using normalized TF algorithm and TF/IDF algorithm, we derived the characteristics on research themes in the university departments. As a result, we have found the followings: (1) web sites present clues of the characteristics of the university departments, (2) by the department restructuring, the information related courses are replaced for the account related courses, (3) TF/IDF is applicable for research themes analysis.
