摘要
Recent studies have demonstrated that hypopituitarism is common in survivors of traumatic brain injury (TBI) further exacerbating existing impairments of physical, cognitive and psychosocial functioning. In light of above the present study was initiated to screen TBI-survivors. Interdisciplinary check up included detection of blood hormone values revealing endocrine abnormalities in 37.5% of the patients. GH deficiency was the most frequent abnormality detected in up to 28.1% of the patients. Screening and follow up of this group of patients did not reveal any case with late onset deficiency and the functional outcome in terms of cognitive tests was not different in patients with endocrine abnormality. Our data mandate systematic follow up of such patients as it could contribute to improved quality of life in survivors of TBI.
