摘要
The political instability and economic problems in most African countries including Nigeria have led to serious challenges in science and technical education (STE). This study was aimed at evaluating the challenges of STE in Nigeria and proffer possible solutions. The sample population comprised of STE teachers in primary, secondary and tertiary (Polytechnics and colleges of education) institutions from both urban and rural areas and the questionnaire was used to gather the data required for the evaluation from these teachers. Results obtained shows that the government do not often train and retrain STE teachers, most teachers in the primary and secondary schools are not qualified to teach STE, there is very poor funding of STE, insufficient quantities of modern teaching and learning aids, use of irrelevant and obsolete curriculum and poor methods of teaching STE in schools. Hence there is an urgent need for a total overhauling/restructuring of STE in primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.
