Effect of alloying on the formation of a cube texture in nickel alloys

The effect of alloying additions on the formation of a cube texture in Ni-8.9% V, Ni-12.2% Cr, Ni-13.6% Cr, Ni-5.9% Al, Ni-3.8% W, and Ni-1.8% Mn alloys was investigated. It is shown that a cube texture of primary recrystallization is formed in thin (120 mum) ribbons obtained by cold deformation to 98% of the alloys with subsequent recrystallization annealing at 900-1050 degreesC for I h. Optimum parameters of the cube texture were found for the Ni-12.2% Cr alloy, where 98% cube texture {100}< 001 > with a scatter of +/- 10 degrees was found. Alloying nickel with W, Mn, V, Al, and Cr results in strengthening of the annealed ribbon (the elements are given in the order of decreasing of the degree of hardening). It is shown that the Ni-12.2% Cr and Ni-13.6% Cr alloys are antiferromagnetic. The Ni-8.9% V alloy is ferromagnetic with a Curie temperature of similar to 40 K.
