A Remeasuring on China's Total Factor Productivity: A Sequence DEA Approach

摘要
The paper uses Malmquist productivity index based on sequence DEA technique measuring China's total factor productivity change during 1978 to 2008, and decomposes it into technical efficiency change and technical change. The results indicate that China's overall total factor productivity change has a slight decline during recent 30 years, and only from 1986 to 1996, it has a remarkable increase. Technical efficiency change is nearly synchronous with TFP change. Overall, China's economic growth is still runs in an extensive way, having increasing reliance on investment. TFP change in central and eastern regions is consistent, while western region shows some catch-up situation.
