摘要：

This paper surveys optimal inspection policies for a finite interval: (j) Basic periodic inspection, (ii) self-testing and (iii) two types of inspection. The optimal numbers of inspections which minimize the expected costs until the detection of failure are analytically derived by partitioning the working time into equal parts. Numerical examples are given when the failure time distribution is exponential.
