摘要
Nucleotypic effects of genome size, caused solely by the total amount of nuclear DNA, on phenotypic characters have been claimed. We looked for such nucleotypic effects in the beetle Phylan semicostatus Mulsant & Rey by measuring the DNA content of Feulgen-stained spermatids in 51 individuals from 8 insular populations. Three biometrical measures were taken on 105 individuals from the same 8 populations. A negative correlation was found between DNA content and body size. The implications of these findings are discussed with respect to the nucleotypic hypothesis.
