摘要
The anthelmintic effect of five broad spectrum, canine anthelmintic products was measured against natural infestations of mature Ancylostoma caninum. Four of the products contained pyrantel embonate, three in combination with oxantel embonate and praziquantel and one with febantel and praziquantel. Each of these products was given once, orally, to separate groups of II hookworm infested dogs at the rate of 14.3 milligrams per kilogram body weight (mg/kg) of the pyrantel embonate component of each formulation. The fifth product contained milbemycin oxime. This product was dosed once orally to a group of 11 infested dogs at 0.5 mg/kg. Worm numbers were reduced by 99% in the group treated with the tablet formulation containing pyrantel embonate (14.3 mg/kg), febantel (25 mg/kg) and praziquantel (5 mg/kg). The three formulations containing pyrantel embonate (14.3 mg/kg), oxantel embonate (54.3 mg/kg) and praziquantel (5 mg/kg) but no febantel reduced worm burdens by 63.4% to 76%. The product containing milbemycin oxime (0.5 mg/kg.) reduced worm numbers by 84.8%.
