Component malpositioning in total hip arthroplasty (THA) may lead to dislocation of the prosthesis. Improper positioning of the patient on the table has been noted as one of the reasons for component malpositioning. Lateral position is routinely used for posterior approach to the hip and is also commonly employed for the lateral approach to the hip. We describe the use of a calibrated patient positioning device employing three-point fixation of the pelvis to keep the patient in the lateral position thus removing one of the factors for component malpositioning in total hip arthroplasty.
