"American Neurosis" in Russian Culture Editor's Introduction

The current issue of Russian Studies in Literature explores Russia's complicated views of "America"-an ambivalent mental construct encompassing freedom and democracy, error and injustice, materialistic temptation and cultural vitality. In an ironic twist, Russian and Soviet artists have often expressed their anti-Americanism in forms imported from the very country they are demonizing.
