Changes of land market in Poland in period of transition

Transitions of area structure in Polish agriculture are directed by market mechanisms. EU integration has also an important impact on the development of Polish agriculture and brings new possibilities. The area of particular farms seams to be the main factor determinating its productive potential. Land turnover depends on political, economical, legal, administrative and demographical conditions. Difficulties with selling state fields in comparison to big trade offer are caused by the lack of capital in agriculture, its small profitability caused chanues in structures of land market connected with buying-selling and renting. The importance of agricultural land renting was growing in last years. In 2003, the largest number of farms which rented land was located in the areas where land market was shaped by the supply of unused land out of the STR. The location of land plot has recently more significant impact on the prices. The land prices are growing particularly in the regions which are considered to be attractive for foreign investors.
