A new chironomid species of the genus Chaetocladius (Diptera, Chironomidae) from the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago

Imago of Chaetocladius makarchenkovi male of the subfamily Orthocladinae found on the Novaya Zemlya Archipelago (Yuzhnyi Island, Pankov Peninsula, the Gribovaya Bay) is described. According to the structure of head, thorax, and anal point of hypopygium, the species is close to Ch. perennis (Meigen), but differs from it in the form and the structure of lower interior volsella, gonostylus, virga of hypopygium, the presence of shortened setae on the twist antennae, lower valves of antenna index AR, and the smaller number of Ac and Dc setae on scutum thorax.
