Remote sensing - A tool for soil resource appraisal and sustainable agriculture

摘要
Delineation, characterisation and classification of soils of Pambar - Nagavathi Agaram watershed covering an area of 73,325 hectares in Tamil Nadu State, India using remote sensing techniques were undertaken. On a base map corresponding to SOI toposheet (57L13) at 1: 50,000 scale, IRS 1B Geocoded FCC was visually interpreted. Fourteen representative soils were examined during ground truth. The soils were classified as per USDA Soil Taxonomy. The soils were grouped into four land capability classes viz., II, LII, IV and VI. Specific crop choice and soil management strategies were recommended.
