Rock creep at the final stage of earthquake nucleation

摘要
An unsteady-state model describing the final preparation stage of a tectonic earthquake is proposed on the basis of the tertiary creep phenomenon. Estimates are obtained for the characteristic size of the zone of precursory events and for the duration of the final stage of inelastic deformation preceding the brittle rock failure. The theoretical estimates are in agreement with the data of in situ observations.
