Microwave-assisted synthesis and biological activities of some bridgehead nitrogen heterocycles

The synthesis of some 6 aryl-3-pyridin-4-yl-5,6-dihydro[1,2,4]triazolo [3,4 -b] [1,3,4] thiadiazoles, 3a-v by the condensation of 4-amino-5-pyridin-4-yl-4H-[1,2,4]-trizole-3-thiol I with various aromatic aldehydes 2 in the presence of catalytic amount of p-toluenesulphonicacid using microwave irradiation & conventional heating has been reported. Considerable increase in the rate of the reaction has been observed with better yields by microwave irradiation using DMF as energy transfer medium. The synthesized compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental and spectral studies and screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities against several microbes.
