摘要
This paper firstly gives an overview of the BBNJ negotiations with a focus on the discussion on MPAs. Following the overview, it then reviews China's participation in the discussion and China's position towards the arrangements for establishing MPAs under the BBNJ agreement. The review consists of two aspects 1) the relationship between the BBNJ agreement and other relevant regimes, and 2) the institutional arrangements. Based on the review, this paper finally analyses the implications of China's participation and position for the future establishment of MPAs in ABNJ and gives concluding remarks in that respect.
