Electrochemical betavoltaic cell using black TiO2 nanotube arrays modified with single-walled carbon nanotubes

摘要
This paper reports a design and fabrication of electrochemical-betavoltaic cell (EBC), which consists of black TiO2 nanotube arrays (BTNTAs) as work electrode, and polyiodine (I-/I-3(-)) solution as electrolyte, and a 10 mCi of Ni-63/Ni (10X20 mm(2)) sheet as counter electrode as well as beta source. By modificating single-wall carbon-nanotubes (SWCNTs) on the surface of BTNTAs, the EBC exhibits an energy conversion efficiency of similar to 5.12% with V-oc = 80.0 mV, J(sc) = 1.59 mu A/cm(2), and P-max = 54 nW/cm(2). The enhancement of betavoltaic effect can be attributed to the large surface area of SWCNTs/BTNTAs with high-density active sites and excellent electric conductivity.
