OPTIMUM INSULATION THICKNESS CALCULATED BY MEASURING OF ROOF, FLOOR AND EXTERIOR WALLS IN BUILDINGS USED FOR DIFFERENT PURPOSES

Heat-losses in multi-storey buildings occur through the roof approximately 7 %, 40 % of it through exterior walls, and 6 % from the floor. For this purpose in this study measurements and calculations were made to reduce heat loss of exemplary multi-storey building's roof, floor and exterior walls. Exemplary building consists of a 7-storey main building and a single storey printing house connected to the main building. To analyze energy loss in the heating and cooling system, devices are placed on heating central, and measurements were made for 1 year. With these measurements the actual efficiency of the heating system and the actual COP value of the cooling system have been identified. Depending on the measured value the optimum thickness, fuel consumption and fuel savings are calculated for the exemplary building's roof, floors and external walls for the heating period, the cooling period, and heating+cooling time periods separately. For the insulation material extruded polystyrene is used; electricity is used for the cooling system, while natural gas is used as fuel for the heating system. All calculations are made based on degree-day method and life cycle-cost analysis.
