Room temperature intrinsic ferromagnetism in pulsed laser ablated few layers of 2D-WS2 on Si/SiO2 substrates

摘要
In this work we report the room temperature intrinsic ferromagnetism of pulsed laser deposited few layers of WS2. The ablation was carried out by employing the fourth harmonics of Q-switched Nd-YAG laser (266 nm) at a temperature of 700 degrees C on Si/SiO2 substrates. Few layers of WS2 were confirmed by Raman and AFM measurements. The photoluminescence spectrum reveals the defect free nature of few layers of WS2 and exhibits intense emission near the band gap. VSM measurements have explored the room temperature intrinsic ferromagnetism in a few layers of WS2 thin films with a saturation magnetisation of 20.1 mu emu. This is the first report of intrinsic ferromagnetism in PLD grown few layers of WS2. The room temperature intrinsic ferromagnetic properties in a few layers of two dimensional WS2 can be exploited to design atomically thin spintronic devices. Copyright (C) 2022 Elsevier Ltd.
