On Legal Translation and Comparative Law

With law-involved materials as its object, legal translation has close relationship with the science of law and the principles of faithfulness, accuracy and expressiveness should be followed in the process of this type of translation. Comparative law and legal translation are interdependent. Legal translation serves as the essential premise and beginning stage of comparative law, while the knowledge of comparative law plays an important role in legal translation. To make qualified legal translation, simply having a solid language foundation or a solid legal foundation concerning domestic law or even having both of the two is not sufficient, a translator is also required to know well the legal culture of the target language country and acquire certain knowledge concerning comparative law.
