Sharing quality in data (SQUID)

The Healthy Eastenders Project works with GPs and nurses in east London facilitating the development of clinical guidelines and administrative protocols for the prevention of heart disease, smoking-related cervical and breast cancers, diabetes, and asthma. The project has carried out audits of preventive activity since 1987. These have shown an improvement in recording of preventive data on practice computers. Sharing Quality in Data (SQUID) aims to work with practices to facilitate the development of computerised disease registers and to carry out audits extracting data electronically from practice computers. This will enable practices to see change over time and to compare their performance with their peers. As well as facilitating change at practice level, it will also be possible through the aggregation of data to inform local strategy.
