Productivity growth and technical efficiency in Indian state's manufacturing industries: The role of infrastructure

摘要：

This paper provides panel data evidence on the productive role of physical, economic, and social infrastructure in the case of Indian State's manufacturing industries. Using principal components analysis, we construct a composite indicator for the availability of infrastructure at the State's level on the basis of 12 individual indicators. Our results strongly suggest that regional disparities in the availability of infrastructure account for differences in both total factor productivity and technical efficiency across States in almost all manufacturing industries.
