摘要：
The paper brings the definition of webGIS technology and its advantages and disadvantages. There are different webGIS architectures described with the review of each of them. The paper describes in details the operation of server and clients in webGIS architecture. There are also the data formats described that are used in webGIS, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of each format. At the end there is a description of current situation in webGIS given, i.e. there are the most important representatives of web cartography described that make today the largest part of web cartographic applications.
