Spaces of musical education in the Sao Luis of the second half of the 19th century

This work aims to study the teaching spaces of the city of Sao Luis, capital of the province of Maranhao, in the middle of the second half of the nineteenth century, where there were music classes. For such analysis, we use as theoretical reference the cultural studies related to Education and that postulate that the school spaces can be seen beyond the disciplinary questions. In order to get closer to the spaces where there were music classes, we have as research source the newspapers that circulated in the capital of Maranhao. From the news of the newspapers we present the spaces where the teaching of music was present and relate this presence to the ideals of civility and elegance sought by the Ludovicenses elites.
