A rate-adaptive power control scheme for wireless microsensor networks

摘要
In this work, we investigate how to use power controlled radio with adaptive channel coding on source coded bits to save energy in wireless microsensor network. In order to save node energy, we propose a so-called rate-adaptive power control scheme for wireless microsensor network. In the scheme, the radio uses discrete power levels to transmit data and channel codes are employed and the code rates are selected based on the power level and channel condition. To implement the scheme, we formulate an optimization problem and propose a distributed way of solving it in the context of wireless microsensor network. Simulation results on field data show that the proposed scheme can result in more than 50% energy savings.
