Materials development in the digital age

AFOSR orchestrates the US Air Force Basic Research investment in materials science and engineering with universities, industry, other government organizations, and the Air Force Research Laboratory Technology Directorates. AFOSR's programs are being strongly affected by the formation of AFRL and by the increased focus on access to and use of outer space. Industrial focus on commercial rather than military priority adds to the changing environment in which materials development and use are fostered by AFOSR. Digital computation opens up new avenues for materials development that may reduce cost and time to insertion. This presentation will explore how the changing world may influence directions for future emphasis.
