Anxiety and depression in chronic headache sufferers

摘要：
Objective: To study anxiety and depression in chronic headache sufferers in comparison to age- and sex-matched controls. Patients: 113 headache sufferers (59 men and 54 women) and 110 controls (56 men and 54 women). Design: Prospective study utilizing the Zung self-rating anxiety and depression scales. Main Outcome Measures: Chi-square test with Yates' correction. Results: The chronic headache sufferers, both men and women, scored significantly higher on the anxiety and depression scales than the controls. Conclusions: Of chronic headache sufferers, almost one-half have anxiety and more than one-third have depression. Moderate severe depression is two times more common than moderate/severe anxiety in chronic headahe sufferers.
