Syntheses, Crystal Structures, and Luminescent Properties of Two Zinc(II) Complexes with Xanthene-9-carboxylate Ligand

Two new Zn-II complexes, [Zn-2(L)(3)(bpy)(2)](ClO4)(H2O)(0.5) (1) and {[Zn-2(L)(3)(bpp)(2)](ClO4)(CH3OH)(0.5)}(infinity) (2), were synthesized and characterized by x-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis (L = xanthene-9-carboxylate, bpy = 2,2'-bipyridine, and bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane). In 1, the L ligands link adjacent Zn-II ions together with incorporating bpy chelating co-ligand, forming a discrete dinuclear structure. For 2, bpp molecules bridge adjacent dinuclear [Zn-2(L)(3)] units to lead to the formation of a two-dimensional (2-D) layered polymer. The luminescent and thermal properties of the complexes have also been investigated.
