Plasma spouted bed reactor for treatment of solid waste

The plasma spouted bed reactor, characterised by the presence of high heat fluxes and vigorous recirculation of powdered feeds, has been used for direct treatment of powdered waste (petroleum coke). The CRTP laboratory unit, capacity about 2 kg, has been constructed and tested for both batch and continuous operations under plasma heating. The thermal characterisation of the reactor, including the temperature distribution through the bed and alumina particle attrition studies have previously been carried out. Strong particle temperature dependence on the plasma power has been demonstrated.
