Damage tolerance of composite laminates subjected to ballistic impact

摘要
An analytical technique [1] has provided reasonably good correlation between delamination damage and residual compressive strength for thick-section composite laminates subject to ballistic impact. This technique combines instability related delamination growth criteria, and Lekhnitskii's analysis for inplane failure in a model that predicts compression after impact strength for given delamination sizes and locations through the thickness. The Compression Strength of Delaminated Structure, CSDS, program [1] has been evaluated for thick section S-2 glass/polyester systems containing multiple delaminations resulting from ballistic impact. In addition, this model has been used to assess damage tolerance and predict the critical delamination size for thick section composite structures.
