Ahead of the Curve: Pediatric Scoliosis

Scoliosis, a lateral curvature and rotational deformity of the spine, is best managed when identified early. Careful clinical examination in the primary care setting is the mainstay of early identification and integral for appropriate referral for confirmation and management by orthopedic specialists. Conservative management includes observation, bracing, and spinal casting. Surgical management includes posterior spinal fusion, vertebral body tethering, and growing rod constructs.
