Analysis is made of the effect of nonuniformity of a supersonic incident flow on the gas-dynamic and thermal characteristics of bodies. In the first part of this review, nonuniform flows of the wake type are treated. The emphasis is placed on the classification and characteristic properties of nonuniform flows, as well as on the experimental and theoretical methods of their investigation and on universal similarity relations for the thermal and dynamic characteristics of bodies in the flow.
