New concepts for new demands in steel plant automation

Due to the increasing market demands for fully automated steel making plants VAI Automation expanded their automation products by new technological control systems and process optimisation models. Typical examples in the converter area are the off gas process control system (Dynacon), the recently developed process model package for stainless steel production and the VAI-Con Temp and Chem systems for continuous temperature and analysis measurement. The availability of automation packages and corresponding modules for extensions and upgrades allows VAI to supply so-called stand-alone solutions as well as the integration of all packages into a seamless automation environment for the steel industry. This paper describes the application of a process optimisation system for the production of special steels at Bohler Edelstahl in Kapfenberg, Austria.
