Foot lesions in patients with diabetes mellitus

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy and peripheral arterial disease are extremely common complications of diabetes. They frequently lead to ulceration of the foot and to amputation. To decrease the amputation rate requires a team approach, the aggressive treatment of foot ulcers, therapeutic shoes, and, most importantly, prevention of foot lesions through patient education and foot care.
