Otitis media in infants and children

I have been privileged to work with skilled and collegial co-workers during my years at the Boston City Hospital and Boston Medical Center. Future studies will focus on the following issues: safety and efficacy of viral and bacterial vaccines in animal models and clinical trials; defining the criteria for using or withholding antimicrobial agents for children with AOM; evaluation of the safety and efficacy of homeopathic medicine (on the basis of a pilot study that suggested results comparable to antimicrobial agents [11]); and investigations of innovative techniques, such as use of xylitol and oligosaccharides for prevention of otitis media.
