They speak alone. The columns on the language written by women in the current Spanish press

Linguistic columnism is a genre with a long tradition in the Spanish press; However, the appearance of female signatures began in 2007, when a linguist began to publish this type of text with some regularity. The objectives of this work are (a) to study the columnism written by women in the Spanish press to show the common and differential characteristics that they may have both between them and in relation to the tradition in which they are inserted; (b) understand the reasons for their absence from the public forum on the language, as well as those that motivate their appearance. For this, the METAPRES corpus has been used, which includes all these columns. It is concluded that extralinguistic issues, such as the power of epistemic communities and women's empowerment; and more strictly linguistic, such as the orientation of the discipline itself, contribute decisively to explain linguistic columnism in feminine
