Large-scale project management in nuclear power plants - Conference report

On November 16 and 17, 2010, the Swiss Nuclear Forum ran a reinforcement course on "Management of Large-scale Projects in Nuclear Power Plants: Modernization and New Construction." Some 200 participants attended the 14 presentations which, in addition to methods and concepts for nuclear projects, also offered interesting insights into other large-scale projects, mainly in the fields of tunneling and a pumped storage power plant. The special importance of the event was emphasized by the expert opinions published at the time of the meeting by the Swiss Nuclear Safety Inspectorate (ENSI) about the applications for construction of new nuclear power plants in Switzerland. Three firms applied for the construction of replacement nuclear power plants on 3 sites in order to fill the gap in electricity production foreseeable roughly for the period after 2020.
