Primary giant ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma. case report

Ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is a uncommon tumor type of the ovarian adenocarcinoma group, which originates from glandular tissue with an encapsulated structure and cells that produce mucoid material. The case of primary giant ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma in a 59-year-old patient with diffuse abdominal pain accompanied by dyspnea, asthenia and weight loss is presented. The ultrasound showed solid-cystic tumor that reached to the costal margin. The abdomino-pelvic resonance reported a well-defined, large tumor with septa and solid areas that almost occupied the abdomen. CA-125 value was 75 IU / mL. Upper endoscopy and colonoscopy were also performed, which were normal. Plain radiography and computed tomography of the thorax showed that both lung fields were free without tumors or evidence of metastatic disease. Exploratory laparotomy was performed, finding a left ovarian tumor which was removed and measured 45 x 40 x 30 centimeters with a weight of 14 kilograms. The histological diagnosis showed evidence of primary ovarian mucinous cystadenocarcinoma, since immunohistochemistry revealed that the tissue was positive for cytokeratin 7 and negative for cytokeratin 20 thus confirming the epithelial origin of the lesion.
