摘要：
Winterson's novel has been promoted as an example of 21(st) century fiction. What exactly characterises the fiction of the new millennium? The article first discusses the concept of interactivity suggested in the text and its relation to the plot structure. Then the implications of virtual reality as a metaphor for the postmodern self are analysed: while Winterson's understanding of the role of imagination remains romantic, her metaphors for the self explore the possibilities of the cyberage.
